How do I renew my PMP® certification?
As per Project Management Institute (PMI®) Guidelines– you need to Renew your PMP® Certification every 3 years to keep your PMP® Certification updated.
Each 3 year cycle is known as Continuing Certification Requirement (CCR) Cycle.

Here are the steps you need to follow to Renew Your PMP® Certification:-
Step 1: Earn 60 PDUs
PDU stands for Professional Development Unit.
1 PDU=1 Contact Hours of Education
So, First Step to Retain PMP® Certificate is to acquire 60 PDUs every 3 Years Visit the Requirements page for more information.
PDUs can be acquired under two categories:-
- Category 1: 35 Minimum Education PDUs [Mandatory]
It is mandatory to acquire at least 35 PDUs through activities like new courses (classroom/online training)
Under this category, you need to acquire minimum 8 PDUs each in sub-category:-

- Technical:
- Knowledge, Skills & Behaviour related to subject of Project/Program/Portfolio Management
- Example:- Tools & Techniques
- Leadership:
- Knowledge, Skills & Behavior needed to guide, motivate & direct project team
- Examples: Soft Skills
- Strategic & Business Management:
- Industry specific knowledge and/or expertise to derive better performance and business outcome.
- Examples:- Industry Knowledge and Standards, Strategic Frameworks, Operational expertise in functions like Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources etc.
- Technical:
- Category 2: 25 Maximum Giving Back PDUs [Optional]
PMP® Certified Professionals also have the option earn up to 25 PDUs by working as a professional i.e. practicing/applying Project Management & Promoting and/or Creating Content around the same.
Step 2: Report PDUs to PMI®
Once you have acquired 60 PDUs, you need to report the same to PMI® by entering the details in the online Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS System).

You will need to use your PMI® ID and Password to log in the system
Once you are logged in, you would need to provide all relevant information about the 60 PDUs you acquired and submit the same to PMI® for Review.
PMI® may take up to 3/4 Business Days to review and approve the same.
How will you find that PDUs you submitted have been approved – You will see the same on your dashboard once you log in the CCRS system.
Step 3: Pay PMP® Renewal Fee
For PMI® Members – 60$ | For Non-Members – 150$
Depending upon the category, you pay the fee and Your PMP® Certification is renewed for another 3 Years.
Important: When should you Renew your PMP® Certification?

Ok – so, during the 3 year period after you have done PMP® Certification, you can acquire 60 PDUs and Renew PMP® Certificate anytime.
It is recommended that you start acquiring PDUs early in the 3 years cycle & submit 60 PDUs claim much before your PMP® Certificate Expiry date to avoid last minute hassle.
Also – you must know that even if you Renew your PMP® Certification before expiry date – your new PMP® Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Cycle will start only after current expiry date and will be valid for next three from your current certification expiration date.
For example: Your PMP® Certification Renewal Date is 2 May 2020 and you have decided to Renew it on 11th Jan 2020.
Upon successful renewal, Your PMP® Certification renewal date will be 2 May 2023 (three years from the original renewal date).
